Car Starts Then Dies When Put In Gear

I have had the car for two years now and the motor has always ran a bit rough. The egr valve, alternator, or fuel pump gets faulty.

Car starts then dies when put in gear. Starts and idles great dies when put in any gear. As soon as you put it in neutral it starts right up, idles great and then dies when its put in gear. I was wondering if it could be the transmission lock plug?
